Dr. Allison Rossett
Professor of Educational Technology, San Diego State University

Dr. Allison Rossett, a Professor of Educational Technology at San Diego State University, works most often on workforce development, elearning, and needs assessment. Allison received ASTD's award for Workplace Learning and Performance for 2002 and joined their International Board in 2004. She is a member of Training magazine's HRD Hall of Fame and was honored with the International Society for Performance Improvement's highest award, Member-for-Life.

Rossett is the editor of the ASTD E-Learning Handbook: Best Practices, Strategies and Case Studies for an Emerging Field and co-author of Beyond the Podium: Delivering Training and Performance to a Digital World. Rossett also authored the award-winning book and web site: First Things Fast: A Handbook for Performance Analysis, www.jbp.com/rossett.html. Recent articles are about reducing elearning drop out rates in Training and Development and Strategies for Blending, in Learning Circuits.

Rossett's clients are a who's who of international organizations, including IBM, Microsoft, MetLife, the Internal Revenue Service, SQL Star International, BP, Ford Motor Company, SBC, Motorola, Royal Bank of Scotland, and Fidelity Investments.

Tom Simmons
Global Chief Technology Officer for Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu

Tom Simmons is a globally recognized leader in business process outsourcing. He is currently Global Chief Technology Officer for Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. Prior to this position, Simmons was Vice President, Managed Services at Hewlett-Packard. He served as Vice President of Compaq's managed services operations, overseeing more than 5,000 employees and growing their outsourcing business to more than $1 billion per year in revenue.

Simmons has also been a vice president managing technology services at Digital Equipment Corporation and was a senior manager at Tenneco, including serving as Chief Information Officer for the $3 billion company.

Michael Obermayer
McKinsey and Company

Michael M. Obermayer spearheaded the development of McKinsey and Company’s world leading corporate learning efforts. Until his recent retirement, Obermayer was a director and senior partner at McKinsey. After serving as head of the McKinsey practices in Norway, Sweden and Eastern Europe, Obermayer set about building a state-of-the-art approach to learning far beyond any existing corporate university, which became the widely acclaimed The McKinsey Institute.

In addition, with his team of specialists in London, New York and Singapore, Obermayer advised clients on learning and people development questions. In particular, he has recently advised clients across a wide range of industries on systematic capability building efforts in support of large-scale corporate transformation programs.

Obermayer holds an MSc degree in chemical engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, a PhD summa cum laude in Biochemistry from the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry and University of Munich, and an MBA from INSEAD in Fontainebleau.

Christopher Hedrick
Former President and CEO, Intrepid Learning Solutions

Christopher Hedrick, an experienced leader in technology, learning and international development, is currently the Country Director for the U.S. Peace Corps in Senegal. Prior to accepting that position, Hedrick was the founding President and CEO of Intrepid Learning Solutions, where he guided Intrepid’s strategic direction, focusing on operations, finances, and client, board, and investor relations.

Before founding the company in 1999, Hedrick was Technology Policy Advisor to the Governor of Washington State, which was twice recognized as "the Digital State" for the nation's best use of technology in government and education.

Previously, Hedrick was the Director of Strategy and Operations for the Gates Library Foundation, which was an outgrowth of his work managing national philanthropic programs and education industry interactions at Microsoft. Before joining Microsoft, Hedrick was a senior administrator at the Peace Corps international headquarters and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Senegal. He has also served as congressional office director and an elected member of the Olympia, Washington school board. Hedrick graduated from Stanford University with honors and was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University. Until his move to Senegal he was a board member and treasurer of PATH, the largest recipient of Gates Foundation global health funding, Chairman of the Board of The Evergreen State College, and Chairman of the Board of the Digital Learning Commons.

 

 

Pat Weger
Former Vice President of Learning & Development, AT&T Broadband

Pat Weger recently retired as Vice President of Learning & Development at AT&T Broadband. She has extensive training and development experience spanning work in public education, high technology, telecommunications and financial services. Prior to working at AT&T, Weger was Vice President of Learning & Development at Fidelity Investments.  Earlier, Weger held training leadership roles at Digital Equipment Corporation.

Weger has led strategy and implementation for many technology-supported learning systems, including a global information architecture, video broadcast and videoconference distance learning, and computer- based multi-media learning. She has expertise in competency-based development systems; executive and leadership development; coaching; employee satisfaction systems and processes; organizational design; and training and development for technical, call center and sales employees. She holds a Masters in Adult Education and Instructional Technology from the University of Wyoming, and has pursued additional advanced studies in visual learning and instructional design at the University of Iowa.

Ernie Kahane
Director of Learning Strategy, EMC Corporation.

Ernie Kahane is recognized as an organizational leader who creates and implements learning strategy that improves organizational performance and business results. He has received a national award for his work in aligning business goals with global training and in implementing development systems. He has focused expertise in learning theory, e-learning, and learning management systems.

Kahane has been a medical educator and held leading training and management consulting roles at Compaq and Digital Equipment Corporation. He holds a Ph.D. in Educational Policy Studies and Instructional Design from the University of Illinois. Dr. Kahane has authored a number of books and periodicals including “Certification: Business and Legal issues” in Evaluating Corporate Training. He has received ASTD best practice awards and is co-inventor of two patented consumer products.

Alex Brigham
Co-Founder, President and CEO of PLI-Corpedia Education

Alex Brigham is the Co-Founder, President and CEO of PLI-Corpedia Education, a privately-held leading corporate and institutional compliance and business skills eLearning firm with more than 250 clients.  

Prior to helping start PLI-Corpedia in 1998, Alex was a principal with the leveraged buyout firm partnership, Clayton, Dubilier & Rice (CD&R).  While at CD&R, Mr. Brigham played an active directorship role in the purchase, oversight, strategy and risk management of Kinko's, Kraft Food Service, and Westinghouse Distribution, among other companies.  Alex is a graduate of Yale University and previously was also a financial analyst at the investment banking firm, Lazard Freres.  He is involved in a variety of non-profit endeavors, including serving as Co-Chairman of the nonprofit Open Compliance & Ethics Group which conducts research and benchmarking studies on the compliance and ethics function of corporations.

Kevin Oakes
ASTD, 2006 Chair & Board Member, Executive Chairman of eContinuum

Kevin is the 2006 Chair of the national American Society of Training & Development (ASTD) board, and is in his 5th year as an ASTD board member. ASTD is the largest association in the world dedicated to workplace learning and performance, and it’s global membership is over 70,000 members. Kevin has been a thought leader in the learning community for well over a decade, and shares his thoughts on the profession through his award-winning column titled "The Enterprise," which appears regularly in T+D Magazine, the largest circulated publication in the industry.

Kevin also serves on the board of Longworth Ventures, a Boston-area venture capital firm. Kevin was most recently President of SumTotal Systems, (NASDAQ: SUMT), the business performance and learning technology industry’s largest single provider of technologies, processes and services. He is currently a Director and retained consultant to SumTotal. Prior to the formation of SumTotal, Kevin was the Chairman & CEO of Click2learn (formerly Asymetrix), which was founded in 1985 by Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft. Prior to joining Click2learn, Kevin was president and founder of Oakes Interactive, an award winning technology-based training company in Needham, Massachusetts. Kevin also founded TopShelf Multimedia, a distributor of off-the-shelf e-Learning titles, and Acorn Consulting, a strategic consulting organization. All three companies merged with Click2learn in 1997, which Kevin helped take public a year later.

Along with being an Intrepid Advisory Board Member, Kevin is currently the Executive Chairman of eContinuum, a Minneapolis-based provider of customized hiring solutions for highly targeted employee selection.
